Blake Sudberry

My name is Blake Sudberry.  My trade is Dentistry.  My gift is percussion.  As a child, I was forced to take many years of piano lessons.  I hated every minute of every one.  What I didn’t realize at the time was that even though I hated music lessons, a seed was being planted in my soul that would blossom into a passion for music in many forms later in life.  One day, out of the blue, at the age of 15, I picked up a pair of drumsticks at church…SHAZAAM!  The seed that had been planted so long ago had now germinated.  To this day, I’ve never had any formal training in percussion, just hard practice and a wee bit of God given talent.  In college, I played percussion with a couple garage bands.  I also played keys with those groups (some of that old piano training coming in handy!).  Today I play percussion for the Johnny Ball Band and also percussion at my home church. My preference of skins is Evans hydraulic (oil filled).  My brass is a combo of Zildjian and Sabian to create a nice contrast.  And finally, I always play with 7A sticks (no particular brand).  A word of caution…Some say if you stand too close to the PA’s, the intensity of the kicks and rifts emanating from them has been known to rattle teeth loose.  If you’re craving to party close to the action, pick up a bizness card after the show.  I am Blake Sudberry, Drummer for the Johnny Ball Band.  Stand Close.
